A GIVEAWAY: Every Bitter Thing Is Sweet
I've corresponded a bit with the one and only Sara Hagerty, author of Every Bitter Thing Is Sweet. She's lovely, you know? Pure treasure.
I was hoping to interview her, but alas, she just gave birth to a newborn child and needs some space from work and isn't doing any interviews and has really good boundaries between writing and mama and wife. Have you read her book, Every Bitter Thing Is Sweet?
It is a gift. It is valuable. It is grace-filled.
I read it for the first time July 2015, while we were waiting for our [adoption] home-study to be scheduled. Sara shares about finding Him in the broken pieces, in the lostness of expectations...whether that is family, career, infertility, singleness, marriage. She walks the reader through her own barrenness, of her body, but also her soul and the path He led her down to experiencing Him in the emptiness. In the brokenness. In the lostness of expectations.
Let me share with you a few of my very favorite excerpts, outlined and circled and hearted in my copy (yes, hearted):
“I don’t want to be a hungry soul just for a season. I want to live hunger. This is what draws me to Him. This is what fills every single bitter circumstance with the opportunity to know Him more. This is what brings me to the sweetness of His presence. And hope happens here at this nexus of bitter and sweet.”
“My mess wouldn’t forever be a curse. One day it would be my crown. One day it would tell the story that, yes, He is good . . . to me.”
God was spoiling me, the child who'd confined herself to one small room of Him but was hungering for more...His extravagance would fade compared with the extravagance He would offer me in Himself -alone- when my body revealed itself barren.
Her writing had my heart coming all undone. It had me hungering and searching for Him in all of the broken pieces of our story and my heart. It wouldn't be too bold for me to say that her book really launched me into a space of honest healing from our miscarriage. Her book invited me into spaces of grace and hungering for Him, not despite of but because of my brokenness and lost expectations.
So guess what? She offered to give away TWO COPIES. Two of my subscribers gets a copy of this book! I CANNOT EVEN HANDLE IT. Even if you win and already have a copy, this would make a perfect gift. Enter for yourself or enter to gift it to someone else. I cannot wait to see this book in two more homes, moving two more hearts closer to Him.

Pretty stoked and honored to give two copies of this away. Her words are seeped with His grace, a hunger for Him that I believe we all have when we allow ourselves to slow down and listen.

"My life has been filled with detours and it's in the re-routing that I'm finding that He gets bigger and I get smaller. I hope and pray this is clear in my writing." -Sara Hagerty
